Google Adsense Filtering Ads – Keep the List Small

November 11, 2008 by Amit Bhawani 4 Comments

Google Competitive Ad FilterThis months adsense optimization tip would be that you should try to block only a very small amount of advertisers because if you use the old dead adsense blacklist’s they dont work anymore. This is because most of those sites are expired and there is no point in blocking them.

Problems with Competitive Ad Filter :
If you start filtering most of your ads in your website’s niche then the major problem you may face is that, there wont be any advertisers left out who would advertise on your website and this way you can expect less revenue. Another point would be that you can lose relevancy factor in the ads because with most advertisers blocked in your niche you can find non-relevant advertisers advertising on your websites.

How to Use Competitive Ad Filter :
Login to your Google Adsense account and click on the Adsense Setup Link followed by Competitive Ad Filter Link. You need to give all your competitors links here in order to make sure they dont advertise on your websites. Publishers generally use this option to avoid low paying ads by blocking them, and they generally research on the advertisers and find if they are MFA kind of websites and block them. Just enter the domain name in the ‘AdSense for Content filters’ box and ‘Save Changes’ for this to activate and within couple hours you can find the ads blocked.
Google Adsense Ad Filter

Google Adsense Defines – The Competitive Ad Filter enables you to block specific ads, such as competitors’ ads, from appearing on your pages. Entering a more general URL will block a wider range of ads; entering a more specific URL will block a smaller range of ads. For example, by entering a top level domain such as “example.com”, you’ll also block all ads that link to any sub-directories of that domain, like “forums.example.com”. Review the examples below to learn how you can create filters that will block only the range of ads you want.

Generally blocking these ads can lead you to more problems, than advantages. Less relevant ads, low paying advertisers because at times you would block a good advertiser who pays high pay per click and lose revenue. The best suggestion would be that you should try to limit this filter list to a very limited number of websites and make money money from google adsense

For the time being I have no ads blocked and hopefully I will use it once my daily revenue increases 😀

Google never discloses how much the advertizer pay per click. So, how are you going to know the CPC?
