How to Add Icon to Quick Launch Bar?

May 23, 2008 by Amit Bhawani

One of my friends had some problems in dealing with certain features of his PC. He wanted to add Outlook Express to his Quick Launch bar of Windows XP program, Service Pack 2. He had consulted with many, but couldn’t find the solution.

I am also not a computer person, but I love dealing with these kinds of problems and find their solutions myself. There are times when I fail, but it gives me immense pleasure when ever I succeed. My friend came to me with his problem.

How to Start the Procedure?
I didn’t know the process of adding icon to the quick launch bar, so I started exploring my computer. I succeeded and found that the process is a quite an easy one. You have to first make it sure that you the Quick Launch taskbar can be see by you and you require to view the folder that containing the application’s icon (the application you want to add).

What Are the Steps Involved?
First, turn the Quick Launch bar on. You can do that either by one right-click on the bar and selecting Quick Launch, or you can do the same (right Click) and select Properties from the list. There you will get an option which will show the quick launch bar.

Taskbar Start Menu Properties

Then click apply and you will be all set to proceed.
Then you will have to find a folder that has the particular application which you are going to add. In this case it is MS Outlook Express. Find that folder by one right-click on your desktop shortcut, next you will have to select Properties and then click on Find Target tab.

Outlook Express Properties

Then you will have to locate the folder having the icon you need. Ensure that you are picking the application, sometimes I made mistakes of selecting data files or helper files when I was in the learning stage. As a result of selecting wrong files I had wrong links on my toolbar, so never make this mistake. It will not let you have the desired result.

Now the only thing you will have to do is dragging the icon. Drag your required icon directly from application to the area of Quick Launch Taskbar.

I hope you will not have any problem in learning the procedure. My friend was also benefited by this process. I could do it easily, so I am sure you people will also not face any problem in performing the work.
