Today after months we wanted to check out one of our email directly which was recently getting many bounced emails. We normally forward all the emails we receive in different Gmail accounts to a single account which is easy to access and along with this we give access for all the accounts to send email from the same Gmail account so that the compose option is also easily handled and there is no need to Login to respective accounts just for sending a single email.
The moment we entered the logins at Gmail.com, we were redirected to this page which is actually from the Google Accounts Help section. As per Google, the accounts are disabled in case you go against their policies and voilate any of the Google Terms or Service following which Google has the right to :
- Suspend a Google Account from using a particular product or the entire Google Accounts system if the Terms of Service or product-specific policies are violated.
- Terminate your account at any time, for any reason, with or without notice.
In this case our account was rarely used and was actually unused from a long period of time and we think the suspension was may be because of inactivity. Google does not give you any clear notice, warning or message on why this has happened nor sent the same to the alternative email address so that the Account holder can get notified about the same.
Now the next option is to click on the contact us page which would ask you for the Email address of the disabled Google Account, Asking if you already have access to the email address which may mean that if you have the logins for the account. Next you need to in detail describe the reasons which you feel because of which the account would have got disabled, post in here all the expected reasons you feel would be for the account getting closed.
Next you will have to fill a form which is available here, where in you need to enter most appropriate answers like when the Gmail account was created, last few email address where you sent a email, password which you remember etc. Once this is submitted Google would review most of these and get back to you within 24 hours. Lets wait and watch on the next step which Google Acts on this major issue.
Update : Google first responded us saying the following –
Thank you for your report. We’ve completed our investigation and cannot return your account at this time. We were unable to verify that you own this account based on the information you provided. If you can provide additional information to verify that you own this account, please visit http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/request.py?ara=1 and submit another report. Whether we can return access to this account depends on the strength and accuracy of your responses, so be sure to provide as much information as possible. If you’re unsure about specific dates or information, provide your best guess.
We replied back to them with the guess date on which we registered the Gmail account and the proofs that we have the correct logins, and other details following which after a few hours we received another reply from them.
We apologize for any inconvenience you may have experienced. The issue you described should now be resolved. If you are still having trouble accessing your account and you still have access to the email address you used to create your account, please reset your password by visiting https://www.google.com/accounts/ForgotPasswd. If you aren’t receiving the password-assistance email, please check your inbox for an email from [email protected]. If you don’t have access to the primary email address on the account or have forgotten the answer to your security question, please fill out the form at http://www.google.com/support/accounts/bin/request.py?ara=1
Finally after around 16 hours the account is back but seems like all the emails for the period it was disabled were missing.
Amit,
This seems to be a problem everywhere nowadays, I am scared and fingers crossed.
This emphasis the importance of diversifing and reducing the dependancy on google.
