Tips for Laptop Data Disaster Recovery

October 6, 2008 by Amit Bhawani

You are using your laptop to finish up a project that is due in a couple of hours from now. You breathe a sigh of relief as you wrap up your final paragraph. Then, the unthinkable happens: your laptop crashes! No matter how many times we may try to knock on wood or take the precautionary measures, it never fails that there will always be a time when your laptop will just give up on you just when you need it to be working perfectly well.

Data Recovery Crash HDDComputer data disasters happen to the best of us. Whether you are using a desktop PC or a laptop, this is something that we hope that never happens. Nevertheless, they do. Before you start panicking, here is a bit of good news for you: you can retrieve and recover these files and pick up where you left off. Nowadays, computer processing applications such as Microsoft Word is equipped with an Auto Recover feature which periodically saves your files and allows you to continue on working. While this is beneficial for most users, it does not do any good if your entire laptop does not want to work any more.

Laptop Data Disaster Recovery

Here are a few tips that you can do to survive the next time you experience a laptop data disaster.

Make Multiple Copies
While it may be tedious to save your documents and other files on your laptop hard drive and into a storage device such as a USB flash drive, this would be extremely helpful in the long run. Making multiple copies of the same file or document that is stored in two different locations would allow you to continue working without having to start from scratch on a different computer.

Store Your Files Online
The Internet has become a one-stop shop for everything and anything that you are looking for. With accessing the Internet becoming increasingly convenient, it would be a good move to store your files in an online storage website. These storage systems are extremely affordable. Some websites even offer up to 2GB of storage space for free. Apart from allowing you to store your files remotely to allow you to download these to your laptop once it has been repaired, some of these websites would scan these files for any harmful computer virus and other computer malware programs which could damage your newly-repaired laptop.

Get a File Recovery Program
Although these programs may cost a lot more than online storage systems, file recovery programs would easily and conveniently allow you to retrieve files that you have accidentally deleted. You can easily get these programs in computer stores around the corner or over the Internet.
