LG KG800 Mobile Phone Review

January 24, 2009 by Amit Bhawani

LG KG800As soon as LG announced the original “chocolate” phone for Korea, there was a lot of interest generated by people both in the local and outside market, and this lead to the launch of the GSM version of the device called the KG800.

The handset is the mark of true craftsmanship, it has a gloss black design touch sensitive navigation keys and a hidden screen which combine to make this one of the best phones on the market. The KG 800 has something special about it that makes it addictive and you’ll find yourself never wanting to let go of it. The KG 800 is a slim hand set that measures 95mm x 48mm x 15.2mm and only weights an amazing 83g which is quite amazing considering all the features packed into this little phone. One of the few disadvantages of the phone includes the gloss exterior finish which is quite difficult to keep clean because almost everything (dust, fingerprints etc) stick onto it.

The phones touch sensitive controls are very sensitive and accurate, the keys on the keypad are large and each have a convex shape which makes the KG800 keypad one of the best keypads on a slider handset. The phones volume buttons ate located on the left edge of the handset, and the media key, end call key, and covered multi-connector are on the right edge of the handset.

The KG800`s 2.0” 262k color TFT LCD screen is not one of the brightest but it does give a clear picture, although usage in sunlight could be difficult because of the handsets glossy exterior which produces a lot of reflection when used outside. The KG800s ringtone volume is quite low and is only audible in reasonably quite places, the MP3 files on the phone can be used as ringtones, and you don’t want to use the vibrate function.

The phones audio features a bit lacking, for example the MP3 player applications produce a very unpleasant sound, and it only has a 128MB of onboard memory, the MP3 player cannot be run simultaneously with the phone so you cant use the phone whilst listening to music, it also doesn’t have ID3 tag support or playlist. The MP3 application does have a few positive aspects for example the phone has some exciting visualizations, and rudimentary equalizer controls.

The KG800s 1.3 megapixel camera is perfect for taking pictures as it produces photos with good resolution. You can also take video and save it on 3GP format although there is very limited storage space on the phone.
