Philips GoGear

February 14, 2009 by Amit Bhawani

Philips GoGearPhilips GoGear is a series of small flash memory and hard drive-based personal electronic devices from Philips. Music lovers who want the iPod’s style but would rather stick to something compatible with Windows Media Player and Windows Media DRM 10 should give some consideration to Philips GoGear HDD6330 Jukebox, a sexy black portable that offers 30GB of storage, photo viewing on a bright, clear screen. The Philips GoGear HDD6330 Jukebox resembles the new black iPod, although at 2.5 by 4.1 by 0.7 inches, it’s noticeably thicker and it weighs more at 5.3 ounces. The player’s smooth black face has buttons that are only visible when it is lit, with a characteristic blue colour. You’ll get only the buttons that work with the menu you’re on

The Philips GoGear HDD6330 Jukebox has a bright 2-inch TFT screen capable of 65,000 colors and eight lines of text. It’s not as big as the 5G iPod’s 2.5-inch screen, but it still does a good job of showing off album art, photos, and even slide shows with music and transitions. Photo integration is done well, with nice slide-show options and simultaneous viewing and listening. When you’re viewing photos with music playing, you can control the music tracks with the top row of controls while using the scroll bar to look through photos so that you can move between tracks without leaving the photo section. It can act as a USB host, so you can transfer photos from a digital camera.

The package includes an installation disc, with no proprietary software. You can load your own ripped songs with the included USB 2.0 cord.

The Philips GoGear HDD6330 Jukebox’s sound quality is brilliant, with or without the headphones. You can load songs at an average rate of 4.9MB per second over USB 2.0. The device has a battery span of 15 to 17 hours. A fast battery charge is possible at 70 percent an 1 hour.

The general characteristics are illustrated below.

  • Rechargeable batteries have a limited number of charge cycles and may eventually need to be replaced. Battery life and number of charge cycles vary by use and settings.
  • 1GB = 1 billion bytes; available storage capacity will be less
  • Windows Media Player, are responsible for some of the running of the Philips Gogear Actual transfer speed may vary based on your operating system and software configuration.
  • Supports download and subscription services compatible with WMA DRM10
  • From Philips
  • USB cable connection
  • 30GB memory
