The much awaited release of 2.2 version of Android platform, the Froyo update is finally visible in the Samsung Galaxy S mobiles. It is available through the Kies software for Windows, which is used to sync the device with the computers. One of the best updates in it would be the GPS navigation system in the Google maps which was buggy all the time when 2.1 eclair was in action.
Here are a few updates you would find in the new Froyo 2.2 upgrade –
- Google MapsTM with Navigation: GPS navigation system with voice guidance
- Adobe® Flash® Player 10.1: Allow the web browser to make full use of the whole web
- Setup Wizard: Quickly customize the GALAXY S and access networks with ease
- Home Screen/Menu Preview and Edit : Preview by pinch-zoom
- Search in-Browser : Google™, Translate, Wikipedia, Dictionary
The GPS becomes a better locator, and now is voice-controlled, and faster performance by JIT(Just in Time) compiler. To update your Samsung Galaxy S to the latest version, i.e. 2.2 you need to connect the phone to your Windows computer and open Kies. (The phone should not be in debugging mode).
There are quite few other changes too, which include the new search widget, the new gmail application, improved default keyboard pattern, colored icons (an option you can choose to), Voice records in mp4 format and better graphics.
P.S. The release is not done worldwide, as of now. The european users are able to update their phones, and slowly the update would spread globally. Though you can read this Upgrade Galaxy S Froyo Update in any Country article and get this done.
