Samsung Galaxy Tab Vs Motorola Xoom Android Tablet

January 12, 2011 by Neal 12 Comments

Xoom vs Galaxy TabMotorola Xoom, which is the latest entrant in the world of tablets now has to battle it out with the existing tab Samsung Galaxy Tab which has been launched quite a while back. So, let’s put both of them in the battle ground and check out which one survives out of both. We will compare both of the tablets with parameters like design, connectivity, multimedia, operating system and multimedia so that it becomes easy for you to choose out of both.

Operating system
Where Galaxy Tab disappoints straight away with the operating system as Galaxy Tab comes with an old froyo 2.2 version, Motorola Xoom wins this contest as this one comes with the latest yet to be adopted by other devices Honeycomb 3.0 Android version.

Display
If we talk of display, then Motorola Xoom comes with a 10.1 inch TFT capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels whereas Galaxy Tab comes equipped with a smaller screen size as it’s a 7 incher TFT touchscreen one with a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. Though small things come with beauty, but here Xoom again scores a point if compared with Tab.

Multimedia
Multimedia too is a very important aspect when we talk of comparison between any two devices. Motorola Xoom comes with a 5 MP camera which is capable of taking Full HD 1080p videos and also comes with a 2MP front facing camera while Galaxy Tab takes a hit back here too as Galaxy Tab comes with a 3 MP camera and 1.3MP front camera.

Power:
While Samsung Galaxy tab comes with a 1GHz single core A8 Cortex processor but Motorola powers its Xoom with a super powerful dual core A9 cortex processor which is a latest and revolutionary processor. So, again with Motorola Xoom, you will never run out of power. Also where Xoom comes with 32 GB of internal storage memory, Galaxy Tab comes with a mere 16 GB of storage space.

Connectivity
Connectivity wise Blindfoldedly, it’s the Motorola Xoom which wins as Xoom comes with an extra kick of 4G LTE Support which Galaxy Tab will lack but if other connectivity features are compared like 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS etc then both stands together.

Final Call
No doubts and No second thought, it’s just Motorola Xoom which takes a WIN over the Samsung’s Galaxy Tab. It’s not yet rolled out but soon it will be rolling out Worldwide. So, as of now Motorola Xoom will be in the highlight

It’s ridiculous to compare the Tab and Xoom. The results are like DUH!!

And anyway, this writer is only comparing the specifications solely on what Motorola has given on paper. Obviously he hasn’t had any play time with the Xoom yet to give a more accurate assessment.

Surely Motorola Has Proved Its Worth At CES Held At Las Vegas This Year;Mainly Motorola Xoom And Atrix Made A Revolutionary Debut Into The International Market With A Fascinating Exhibition Show Given By Motorola CEO. Surely The Tech Specifications Are A lot Better Any Other Of Its Competitors.

There is not comparison between these 2 tablets. The Galaxy will soon find itself in the tablet graveyard. The Xoom is the unit to beat in 2011!

Portability? This is a critical issue for me, and for many people.
Anything over about 7 inches is simply too big for a sport-coat or overcoat pocket, and too big for a purse or a reasonably sized backpack.

Why was this parameter ignored? Because, if taken into account, it would have instantly made Xoom, and Ipad for that matter, the losers.

Tweaking the rules to force a win in one direction rather than letting the chips fall where they may when ALL parameters are included, shows a lack of integrity.

This comparison is an epic fail.

    Human-factors engineering.

Furthermore: why do all jeans manufacturers make jeans with two legs? Duh. Because human ergonomics generally demands it.

Why did two utterly different and separate companies migrate to the same size format, Amazon and Samsung (the standard Kindle and the Galaxy Tab are about the same size)?

Because human-factors engineering demands that a hand-holdable device, used for viewing books, movies and other screened items, be a particular size. When you hold a book with your elbow(s) at your side, or leaning on the sofa, the apparent size of the screen should be about the same size as a TV or, indeed, a book, at standard viewing distances. This consideration results in two essentially immutable parameters regarding maximum weight and min/max sizes allowed.

The result is the format used in the Galaxy Tab and standard Kindle.

Anything bigger is a desk-based, or coffee-table-based, device. Which is exactly how Apple markets the Ipad.

No comparison is valid that ignores these considerations.

Don’t know why my previous comment in Hindi was converted to junk.

It is not justified to compare Galaxy Tab to Xoom. Xoom should be compared with Galaxy Tab 2 (equipped with dual core processor and Honeycomb) because both of these are of same generation.
