With the Internet and blogging so prevalent in our everyday lives, it only makes sense that people want wearable cameras to help keep track of their numerous adventures and excursions into the world.
Whether you are trying to capture your actions on the slopes, on the field, or in the street, you need a wearable camera that can meet your needs while capturing the entire scene. There are a few things for you to consider when it comes to choosing a camera. The following features are what you will want to look for in a camera, particularly a wearable one.
- Durability – The camera needs to be long lasting and ready for action in any environment.
- Lightweight – Due to the tasks you will be undertaking while wearing it, you almost need to be able to forget that you are wearing it.
- Battery Life – The above items are important, but it is all for nothing if the battery doesn’t last. You need one that can handle being used for several hours at a time. After all, you can easily lose track of time while you’re having fun.
- Quality – Getting a wearable camera to record your adventures isn’t difficult, but finding one that gives you a quality image? That can be a little bit difficult.
In light of these requirements, we have compiled a list of some of the best action cameras on the market.
GoPro Hero
You know that your product has reached a certain level of recognition when the name becomes almost generic. Like Band-Aids (yes, that’s a brand name), the name GoPro has become the standard for nearly every wearable camera on the market, even if the brand is clearly different. That being the case, we really cannot present to you a complete list without mentioning the GoPro Hero. The Hero features expandable storage, a maximum image resolution of 5 MP, and a whole lot of awesome in a very small looking package.
Garmin VIRB
When you think of ‘Garmin’, the first thing that comes to mind, obviously, is GPS devices. This camera, however, has plenty of benefits that manage to top the GoPro Hero 4, which is a surprise to many. The VIRB has a maximum resolution of 1080P and can capture at up to 30 FPS. In addition to that, the maximum image resolution is 16MP, twice as much as the GoPro Hero. Finally, the storage can be expanded up to 64 GB, giving the user far more options than ever before. This is a great camera, complete with an LCD screen and anti-shake features. If you want to capture the whole story, then this is the camera that you want to go to.
Panasonic HX-A1 Wearable Action Camera
Panasonic has long been a contender in the area of electronics and it certainly comes through once again with this beautiful Panasonic wearable action camera. The HX-A1 features an MP count of 3.54, which sits at 2.87 for motion image and 2.66 for still images. It is a great balance and even features an image stabilizer for those who are into the more extreme sports. With an expandable memory slot, you can further improve on the camera’s capabilities and capture nearly every adventure you choose to embark upon.
Sony HDR AS-100V
It would be remiss of us to forget Sony in this lineup as it definitely pushes the envelope when it comes to audio/video capture. The AS-100V is able to capture slow-motion video and those who want to spend a little extra will be able to take advantage of a wrist control device which will add a new dimension of control for those who are interested.
GoPro Hero 4 Black
So the GoPro might have already been covered, but the Hero4 Black brings plenty of new features to the table. It has the same sensors as the previous model, but the processor in the black is considerably faster, meaning you can capture 4K video at a full 30 FPS. If you want to get even faster, you can always record 1080P at 120 FPS in the greatest of quality. The maximum resolution Is 12 MP and storage can be expanded to a full 64 GB.
These are a few great examples, and as more than a few reputable sources have stated, the wearable camera is becoming all the rage for those who want to capture their excursions. There was a time when stories would be told, whether they were believable or not, but now, no one has to simply tell stories. Now, the truth can be seen in its full high definition glory whether you’ve been chased from the Appalachian Mountains by a grizzly bear, or conquered the largest slopes with your skis. The world is yours to capture.

Hey Amit,
Thanks for sharing about these wearable action cameras. With due respect to other features, quality is of utmost importance. Among them, Garmin VIRB & Hero 4 Black seems to be better options.

Hi, Amit. I’m a travel freak and I carry a DSLR and some good lenses with me wherever I got, but sometimes it becomes impossible to carry your camera with those bulky lenses. I liked the idea of wearable cameras; It sounds cool.
