Transfer Google Analytics Website Profile to Another Account

February 13, 2011 by Amit Bhawani

Google Analytics LogoQuestion : Hello Amit, I have a question specific to Google Analytics. I have two different analytics accounts and my main website stats are located in the first account, while the second account is linked to my Google Adwords & Google Adsense accounts. Hence i would like to transfer my website profile from one account to another account. Is it possible without deleting the data on first account and just moving all the history stats because they are very previous and i cannot loose them.

Solution : First of all I would like to let you know that technically this is not allowed. There is no direct option to Export all the stats and Import the same onto another account. You can just export all your stats one by one in PDF reports format but not in a format which can be imported back onto your account. This has been confirmed by a Google Employee, hence we need to dig into different alternate options.

One option is to get a Urchin account which costs around $2000 per year + support where in you can enable Page Tracker and then ‘Set Local Remote Server Mode’ in order to create a local copy of the same and then link to your another account. This can be a very costly option and would not be suggested if you are a user who just needs to transfer the website statistics data.

Next option would be to create a new Analytics account and then start using the code given on the new account on your website to track everything. But this would mean you cannot link to the previous one and you cannot even compare the data as everything on the other account is history. Many users have been opting for this option but again its not fruitful and perfect because this would lead to only current and future statistics tracked in the new account.

The final option available would be trying out the User Account Privileges option where in you need to add a new user to the old account who is the admin of the new account. Following is a better example with graphical representation.

Google Analytics Profile

Next here in you need to click on the ‘+ Add User’ option to Add User Access To Profile. A new page would show up asking you to select one of two listed options ie Add new User access for Profile OR Grant access for existing User to Profile. You need to select the first option as the New User is not already linked to your account.

Add User Access Profile

You need to enter the Email address of the Second User Account ie the one to which you have the new Google Analytics account registered with. Next under the drop down option of ‘Access Type’ you need to select ‘Account Administrator’ option, which gives the other account complete access. Account Administrators have access to all reports and profiles in your account.

Login to the New Analytics Account which in this case is linked to amit@digitalworldsolutions.com and verify that you have access to the Analytics stats and both the accounts have full access to the stats.

Now you need to delete the User Account from Old account for which you need to click on the ‘Edit Account and Data Sharing Settings ‘ link. Here you will find the option to ‘Remove this user’. You won’t be able to access your reports if you decide to do this. Please note that this is irreversible once you click the link below.

Finally this way you have moved all your data to your new Analytics Account and the previous data is perfectly working without the need to update new tracking codes.
