Twitter Sucks – Bloggers Stop Wasting Time Tweeting

August 26, 2009 by Amit Bhawani

There are many people who have read this blog , got inspired and have started blogging and but lately i have found something new. These Bloggers who had seriously started some blogs are now running dead blogs or slow blogs which means that they have got themselves into something else which is Tweeting. I do understand that ‘Twitter is not completely useless’ but it is Useless if you are Tweeting during your work time and ignoring your main job.

Time Calculations :
Writing 1 400 Words Article – 1 Hour
Writing 1 1000 Words Article – 2 Hours

Tweeting and @Replying Friends – Seconds to Hours

Writing Blog Posts can depend on the time and research along with the experience on the niche, but Tweeting has no time limits because you need to first waste some time on reading all the @Replies you have received, then reading your timeline for all the updates from your past login to your Twitter Account, which means more time spent, which is followed by Replying to others Tweets and then finally stopping at Reading & Writing to Direct Messages.

While you writing on your blog, it can lead to traffic and finally help you in making money but Tweeting is just a complete waste of time because at the end you can gain few friends and rarely any money and even if you try to promote few affiliate links or premium paid sponsored tweets you will be making few pennies to low dollars and not something like in blogging which is steady income.

Twitter Search Vs Search Engines
Its claimed that the Twitter Search is far more better than other Web Search Engines because the results are real time, but well this is a wrong claim because Twitter Search is kind of personal and is not always useful. Example – If there was a ‘Earthquake in Kolkata’ last week, while you search on both of these you will find the following.
Twitter Search Link Vs Google Search Link
Twitter Search shows me just 2 Tweets, while the Google Web Search shows us with thousands of results and along with this you can scan through the Google News Results and Blog Search Results for additional results. Do you still feel Twitter is offering any real good stuff on the Search Sections. Yes it may be quite good at times but that’s just 1% of the total searched content and this is really a very small number worth counting in.

Tweeting does not help you always but can be a addiction because you start gaining friends and followers who would reply to you regularly and you also do the same but this is only a absolute waste of time and does not help you in doing something useful. Many bloggers have turned to Tweeting because the Tweet Guru’s who have got huge following base have recommended this medium to promote blogs but this is not a long term stuff since tweeting requires you to continuously stay Active & Connected with others and this is when you can expect some visitors to the links you would tweet, and this is also not going to cross 10% of your total referred traffic websites list. While you would blog and blog and stay on the topic you can expect better results since the traffic would be from search engines and this is long term stuff since the blog posts are listed on the SERPS[Search Engine Result Pages] and you can easily monetize this traffic.

Finally i would stop bashing more about twitter here because there can be 100+ results why Twitter Sucks and is not really a useful website which you should focus more on rather than leaving your main job of blogging which can give you lot of fruits rather than some flying birds. You can always Tweet but this should be a limited affair and should not be done full time, and these points can be understood when you compare your previous dedication towards your blogs and your current dedication. Oh by the way if you still dont plan to leave Twitter and continiously stay active on it full time then Follow me.

I completely agree with you. Having hundreds of followers does not help in any way. It really distracts a lot. It is an ephemeral craze that would soon subside.

You need traffic from twitter but you blabber twitter sucks and its waste of time !
you are using their service beneficially and also kicking them down ! why so ?
[i usually do negative commenting , but ‘twitter sucks’ is negative posting !]

This post was mainly intended to my brother http://twitter.com/sizzler_chetan who tweets most of the time and does not blog at the same time, if you are a serious blogger you will know the importance of posting vs tweeting. I rarely tweet and the twitter batches are for visitors to share the links which is almost automated stuff and does not waste time.

To each his own, I guess.

However, Twitter is good for finding out new contacts and sources of information. Foreign media was able to learn about the recent China earthquake through the tweets of the people in the area. It’s also good in the way that it’s like a list of headlines–pretty much like search engines, but much more interactive.
