Something nearly similar I had written over at my blog (Why iPad would be a fail), but still want more readers and Apple fanboys to read, on why the latest release Apple iPad tablet device doesn’t speak up to the standards. It surely can be called a good new release from Apple, different in its kind, not resembeling a phone, and not a laptop either. But still, it has few things that keeps everyone disappointed, listed below –
No Multitasking
Now most of the us would not like to stick to only one app, while working on such non-small screens. You can’t tweet while browsing the web, can’t listen to music in the background, can’t use a notepad to write along while browsing any web pages. It limits you to use a single app, as the iPhone did.
Based on the OS of iPhone
When you hear this, it can be well understood that Apple has just stretched the iPhone to a larger size, and kept the interface and OS the same. You won’t like to use the same phone features in a bigger device, and especially when its limiting you not to have any drag-and-drop features.
Lack of camera
Camera is not included, either on the front or the back. This is another major disadvantage where the possibility of video conferencing is thrown away. At least the mac has a camera above its screen, and iPhone has one on its back.
No flash support
Adobe flash team, and the Apple team have always been working to make flash support the flash-based-apps in the iPhone and iPod touch but nothing stable had been out yet. And now the same lack of support for flash can be seen in iPad too.
Storage limitation
The device comes in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB versions and these decide the pricing of the iPad too. If you once buy the 16GB version for $499, you are stuck at it and in future you won’t be able to add any extra internal memory as there is no extra slot to accomodate more storage space.
Doesn’t beat the Kindle in e-book reading
Although an Apple fanboy lists out many reasons where it might be beating the Kindle from Amazon, in e-book reading, i still would state the e-ink feature of Kindle as the standing advantage and plus point that alone can beat the iPad. And Kindle is half the price of iPad, why would one be inclined to buy the iPad for e-book reading now?
Connectivity and availability
It has no GPS support, and there’s different pricing depending on the 3G support by the device. Also, the U.S. customers who are subscribed to T-mobile would be disappointed as Apple has joined hands only with the micro-GSM service of AT&T to provide network for internet connection.
And its not going to be available till July internationally, so it keeps people waiting. Hopefully other brands release any better products to beat and compete the Apple iPad device.
As far as I know, there is no sim-lock – so, you are not bound to AT&T. It’s just an option to use the deal, you can change the SIM-card if you want to. The focus is: Give non-tech-people a device with which they can check mails, prepare a presentation, play, read magazines (and books). If they did that I can’t tell. Looking at the whole design I must admit, that including a camera (in a device, you have on your knees etc. most of the time) for video conference seems… complicated.
As for multitasking (for twitter/messenger/etc.) there will be a solution for sure. But as always with apple: They will wait and see, what the people really want to do and then try to enable them to do that.
I don’t want to say, that I will buy an iPad or that I see a use in it. But I can think of persons who will be okay with the no camera/no additional internal memory because they will be pleased to have something they can use without the fear to do something wrong.
Get your facts right the latest kindle is only 10$ less than the base ipad and try reading a comic book on the kindle as for gps it is available in the 3g model in the form of a-gps.The iphone OS is more polished for that type of hardware atleast its not xp. the storage is in flash formst hence capability is less but it is faster than hdd.
though some points are validated like lack of flash, no camer and lack of MULTITASKING.
One more major disadvantage is User doesn’t have full rights to use iPad.Apple locked many features.For ex if we want to install an app,we have to use only apple’s store apps.We can’t use other apps.This is a big disadvantage in my view.Thank you nice review.
It does have GPS…
I have read alot about Apple I-Pad it has 3 models. I-Pad with or without 3G and Wi-Fi. I-Pad in India will not be a successful thing coz in it’s price a person’ll buy a laptop instead of this crap..
The IPad. It Sucks. Period.
The iPad is just another conspiracy from Apple to “try and control the retarded consumer” even a netbook can be personalized (dont get me started on how much I hate netbooks too), lets face it its perfect if you want to pay needless money to get software that is already free online, something with little to no space for content, inability to multitask, ect. I could complain forever… The one thing Apple has going for it is how they design there useless over priced crap… Its “pretty” yet ultimatly useless…. and probably crashes hardcore like there supid iPod or iTouch… Apple should change there name to iOwn or iControl because you have to buy from the iStore! Errrr stupid useless technology
Save your money buy a laptop….

do you suck? yes you do. Why do you think people should write good about you after this post. To make this a more rational post you should also talk about the good things it has. And they far outweigh these few points that you have mentioned. Talk about the user experience. Thats more than enough. Now stop bitching and Im sure you will be the first one to buy the ipad.
