Facebook seems to be down these days very often either for some update or for a reason like hackers attack and I want to make sure that my personal data is not accessible by others. Also is there a way to download all my personal information from the FaceBook website? I need a free service or tool like the twitter backup service<\/a> you had earlier recommended.<\/p>\n

Answer : First of all there is not much to worry about all this stuff because your data is still secured and cannot be expected to be easily shared with others. This is the reason we have had earlier suggested many different useful tips like Facebook Login Tips<\/a>, Facebook Login for Mobile<\/a>, Facebook remote logout<\/a>, Download Facebook Videos<\/a> etc<\/p>\n

Now lets get back to the topic of downloading your private information from facebook.com. Earlier there was no option available by facebook to export all your data and import it into other services but now they do offer this. To get started you will have to login to your account first and then click on the Account Settings.<\/p>\n

Under the Account Settings you will find different options listed. Scroll down to the bottom and under the ‘Account Security’ there is a option of ‘Download Your Information’.<\/p>\n

Once you click on the ‘learn more’ link you will be shown with a message as displayed below.<\/p>\n

Click on the ‘Download’ button and as per facebook all your personal information which includes photos, videos which you had uploaded, friends list and all the content which you had shared through your profile all zipped into a single file. Before this facebook would ask you to ‘Request My Download’ because this process takes some time before the actual download begins in order to fetch all the data.<\/p>\n

Once its ready you will get a email when the download is ready.<\/p>\n

This step makes you not to wait for the download while the processing is being done. It would take a few minutes to a few hours of time to process everything and make the facebook service to send you a file with all the data within it.<\/p>\n

A email will be sent to the email account which is linked to your facebook account. Once you click on the link which looks something like https:\/\/register.facebook.com\/download\/?h= facebook will show you a warning to enter your login password again to make sure that unauthorized access is not being made to download this data.<\/p>\n

Once you Verify Password and confirm your identity you will be shown with the final warning following which the ‘Download Now’ button has to be pressed. Next the ZIP file would be downloaded to your computer.<\/p>\n
