I was recently wondering about the total number of websites on the Web, after finding my blog’s Alexa Rank reaching in 4 digits. This is because i wanted to know how many other websites on the Earth iam competiting with and whats the point if there are a couple million websites and you rank in millions. After doing some searches i found that netcraft<\/a> makes a Web Server Survey with the total number of websites in terms of Hostnames<\/a> & Active Websites in the form of a Graph which indicates that there is a tremendous growth in the overall numbers.<\/p>\n

At the same time there has been a huge amount of confusion on the total number of blogs here<\/a> but the conclusion was never given with many bloggers saying that Technorati claims of 100 million+ blogs on the web but no statistics or count confirmations. These all numbers can be a raw estimate based on the total number of Hostnames and Active websites.<\/p>\n

With the increase in the number of Bloggers and web demand, it seems like the numbers are bound to increase at a higher rate and we expect that new TLD’s would be introduced to allow new domain registrations.
