General DVD drives are able to store around 4.3Gb of data and you need a DVD R\/RW to get this done and a DVD burning<\/a> software to get this done. But if you are looking to burn a higher sized file which is more than 4.3Gb in size you need to get a DVD+Recordable Double Layer which has a storage capacity of 8.5Gb of data storage\/240minutes of video storage.<\/p>\n

First and foremost thing while handling a DVD is to make sure its recording surface is protected from scratches, fingerprints, dust particles etc and make sure you hold the DVD from the sideways and no from the center part. If it gets some dust on the surface try to clean it using a soft cloth or using a DVD cleaning liquid.<\/p>\n

The double Layer DVD does not mean you can write data on both sider of the DVD to save double the data, but it creates 2 layers on the same side of DVD and it should be handled the same way any other CD\/DVD is handled.<\/p>\n

Time required for one DVD+R DL Writing :<\/strong>
\nGenerally a CD takes around 10-15mins to complete the writing process and it depends basically on the speed of the writer and the CD you are using for writing the data. If you take the same specs you would be in a estimation that a 8.5 Gb DVD would take couple hours but generally it takes around a maximum of 45minutes to write.<\/p>\n

\"Burning<\/p>\n

At 2.4x[3324kb\/sec] the 8.5Gb DVD would take around 45 minutes in total to write the complete data. It does take up another 10minutes for speed measurement and data verification.<\/p>\n

Softwares for DVD writing :
\nThe most recommended DVD\/CD writing software is Nero because it comes as a bundle software with the DVD\/CD writer you purchase and you need to make sure you have the latest version of the same. Another DVD writing software is Roxio which has a very easy wizard to get started in writing up your data. In case of macbook you have a preinstalled software for DVD writing which you can use to burn up DVD’s.
