A removable and portable memory device of a small size that is used in many gadgets such as MP3 players, digital cameras, cell phones and mobile phones etc. The announcement of the introduction was made by Sandisk Corporation in on the march 2003. It was demonstrated on the same year on CEBIT. In the same year the SD association adapted the mini SD as an ultra-small form factor extension to the SD card standard and some new small size cards for the use of mobile phone were made, the mini SD card\u2019s adapter is also packaged along to enable compatibility with all devices packed with a standard memory card slot. The mini SD card is of universal compatibility having different brand names and there are different manufacturers who make it. It is often mistaken as micro SD card that is another small size SD derivation. The micro SD card<\/a> is divergently used in mini SD devices but there is absolutely no use of mini SD in micro SD devices.<\/p>\n

Here is a small comparison of the SD memory card, micro SD and the mini SD cards.<\/p>\n

The SD memory cards have the width o f 24 mm and the width of 32mm. The width of a micro SD is 20 mm with the width of 21.5 mm. The width of the mini SD cards is 11 mm and the length is 15mm.<\/p>\n

\"Mini<\/a><\/p>\n

There are two different capacity ranges for both the mini SD and the mini SDHC. The capacity range for the mini SD cards in the recent times is from 16MB to 4GB whereas the mini SDHC cards do have the capacity from 4GB to 6GB. In September 2006 the announcement of 4GB capacity in the mini SDHC was made in a press release by Sandisk. The form factor of the mini SDHC is the same like mini SD but HC support is required to be built in the host device. The devices of mini SDHC that are without a specific support, will work only with the old mini SD cards.<\/p>\n

The simplified versions of MMC<\/a> and SDIO specifications assist the table data to be compiled. There are websites relating MMC and SD cards regarding the information of SD cards. There is the interpolation of the data providing the information about the other SD cards variation.
