There have been multiple reports from users who claim that their iPad is not being charged when they connect it to their computer’s or Laptop’s USB Port and Apple seems to be recommending using the AC Adapter supplied with the iPad package. Many consumers are looking to otp for the USB Version because that’s portable and they can charge the device with the battery backup of their laptops. Here is one of the problem listed below.

The iPad charger is 2.1 amps and the iPhone and iPod charger (even though it looks the same) is only 1 amp. Am I correct to assume that the iPad cannot be charged via USB and must be charged with the included mains AC adapter? I’m on a Mac Pro but it’s probably that I’m using a USB hub (powered).<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

When I plugged my iPad into our iMac, it said “Not Charging”. Same when I plugged it into the 13″ MacBook Pro and the 17″ MacBook Pro. I called AppleCare and they told me that it must be charged via the AC adapter and cannot be charged on USB. She also said she was trained yesterday for 5 hrs.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Now the reason for why the iPad is not charging USB is that, the older computers have lower-power USB ports. Here is a explanation for the same.<\/p>\n

Apple offers you with two different ways to connect your iPad and get it charged :<\/p>\n

  1. Connect iPad to a power outlet using the included cable and the 10W USB power adapter.<\/li>\n
  2. Connect to a high-power USB 2.0 port using the included cable.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

If you charge the battery while syncing or using iPad, it can take longer to charge. The fastest way to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter. When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge, but only when it’s in sleep mode. Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that\u2019s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.<\/p>\n

    When charging iPad using a computer’s USB 2.0 port, make sure the computer is plugged in to power and not in standby, sleep, or hibernation mode. iPad does not charge when connected to an older accessory that only supports FireWire charging. When connected to these accessories, iPad will display the following alert.<\/p>\n
