Setup Restrictions & Parental Controls in Apple iPad

June 14, 2010 by Amit Bhawani

The Apple iPad device is not just used for Browsing the web but is mainly used by kids for playing games and viewing videos and this is something which makes parents worry, because Youtube.com has a huge amount of explicit content which can accessed easily. You just need to create a Face Youtube account by entering wrong date of birth and getting access to all the Age-restricted videos which have Inappropriate Content, not suitable for children. The age restriction on watching videos is set at 18 years and any child can still register for a new account by entering wrong years and get access to all the bad content.

Parents can now restrict their children from getting access to explicit music from the playlists & videos by either turning off the Youtube access completely. In order to Turn the Restrictions activated you need to Tap on Settings > General > Restrictions > Enable Restrictions.

Set Passcode Restriction Apple iPad

You will be asked to enter a Four digit numeric Passcode two times, which is actually setting up a passcode to access this restrictions section next time to change any settings. Hence disabling access would mean that children cannot access this section and disable the restrictions. Do make a note that if you forget this password which you had setup, then the only way to get is back is by restoring the iPad software using the iTunes application.

The restrictions allow you to Enable or Disable the iPad users to access the Safari Browser, Youtube, iTunes, Installing Apps & Location. You can also disable the In-App Purchases, Music & Podcasts, Movies, TV Shows, Apps etc. The Apps option would allow you to set access based on the ages ranging from 4+, 9+, 12+, 17+ and All All Apps.

Once you disable a feature, the icon would be removed from the device home screen and you cannot access the internet or web clips though other apps may be allowing you to access the Internet even when the safari is disabled. A excellent way to keep your children stay away from inappropriate content on the Apple iPad.
