How to Run iMovie on Apple iPhone 3GS iOS4 & iPod Touch

June 29, 2010 by Tony Stark

iMovies iPhone AppThe Apple iPhone 4 has a application called as the iMovie which is a Video editing application useful to edit HD quality movies directly through your device itself. We had recently covered in detail regarding this application which apple is offering as a paid app costing 4.99$ and the same does not work for iPhone 2G, 3G or 3GS and is developed in such a way that the app works only for iPhone 4. Here is a small trick which helps you in making the app compatible with the 3GS devices which are updated to the iOS4 with multi tasking features.

May be this is one reason apple limited the function available to the latest device to boost the sales and make the device owners to upgrade and pay more. This hack is going to make the App work for both iPhone & iPod Touch.

The process needs you to have a jailbroken Apple iPhone 3GS with the upgraded iOS4 following which you need to edit the .ipa file of iMovie App though this is against the Apple’s DRM hence another option would be modifying the info.plist file and changing the Minimum system version to 3.0.0 from 4.0 and front-facing-camera to false since there is only 1 camera available in the older devices. We will for sure find another excellent cracked app which would make this easily possible for the iPhone users rather than modifying the files.

You can find that the app works in both portrait and landscape mode, select theme and also turn On the music. You can easily shoot a video from within the app and then go for editing of the same. The app would be a bit slower because of the lower RAM when compared to the 512Mb RAM of iPhone4. You can trim videos, add background music, merge different clips and edit transitions along with adding titles to your clips. The same videos can be exported but with a limitation that they would work only in the 360p medium format which is still a decent enough quality.
