How to Change Gmail Themes – Small Tutorial

November 21, 2008 by Amit Bhawani

Gmail is now offering upto 30 different themes which are real good and very quick loading because their images are highly optimized to make sure the mails load quickly and you dont feel any delay. Yahoo mail beta on the other hand takes good amount of time for loading because of the ads and high graphics.

Gmail Themes

The new gmail homepage features the news of the 30 themes available in your settings page. Previously i used gmail redesigned feature using Stylish Add-On in firefox but this was just limited to firefox browser and we could not see the new design in other browsers, but now with the inbuilt themes option in gmail its a universal feature available for any browser. Here is a sample of the gmail themes which you can select from.

How to Activate a New Theme
If you are looking for changing your gmail theme from the default one then you need to login to your gmail account first and then click on the ‘Settings‘ tab.

You will find a big list of available themes out of which you can select anyone and click on it to instantly activate it. The new theme is instantly activated and you can see the effects within seconds with a message of ‘Your preferences have been saved.‘

Here is a sample of the gmail themes which you can select from.

Gmail Themes List

I personally liked the ‘Desk’ theme & ‘Ninja’ theme, which gmail theme did you activate in your account?

Gmail should give us the power to create our own themes. A framework to do so will change users perspective to checking mails.

Currently they are limiting to a very small number of themes and if you are a designer you can contact them because gmail does accept freelancer’s themes!

The Tab is only available to GMail users who regularly use the Web Interface actively, as opposed to using GMail from a remote application, such as Apple Mail or MS Outlook or whatnot.

It has nothing to do with when the accnt was registered, but simply the activity of the accnt. I can`t however offer the precise number over which would qualify (deemed by Google) as an active user.

Happy New Year of the Ox to all GMailers.

Gmail Themes aren’t yet compatible with all of our supported browsers. Themes are only available in Internet Explorer 7.0+, Firefox 2.0+ or Safari 3.0+, and Google Chrome. You won’t see a ‘Themes’ tab in your Settings if you’re not using the newer version of Gmail on the browsers listed above. Please note that Themes are not available if you’re using Internet Explorer 6.0

In the right side at the top of your gmail web page you can see “setting” option.Click on setting there are many tabs the last tab is “theme” click and chose theme.I the theme tab is not available means you are using Internet Browser of older version.you need to down load new version of Internet Browser.you can easily get search in the google “down load latest internet brouser” to update latest version of internet browser.
    Thanks
