Our previous tutorial was on Creating new Campaign, while in this tutorial we will teach you how to Create ad and keywords for a new Google Adwords Campaign. This option is displayed once you complete the initial campaign settings. You get a total of 4 different Ad creation options which can be used to create different advertisements for your campaigns like Text ad, Image ad, Display ad builder, Mobile ad (WAP only). The most popular of all these is the Text Ad which is found all over the web and in most cases on the Google Search results pages.
There are a total of five lines of information required to be filled for setting up a single ad.
- Headline: The blue hyperlink to your landing page; total of 25 characters.
- Description Line 1: 1st line of black text; total of 35 characters.
- Description Line 2: 2nd line of black text; total of 35 characters.
- Display URL: The green text displaying your landing page; total of 35 characters.
- Destination URL: The actual destination landing page (that must match the display URL domain); total of 1024 characters.
You need to create a very catchy Advertisement by filling the forms in such a way that anyone who reads this ad would click on it and you get a higher CTR[Click-Through-Rate]. A sample ad would be as shown below, which would be displayed at all the locations you had specified on the campaign settings page.
The next section would be ‘Keywords‘ where you need to specify a list of different Keywords & Key-phrases for which the advertisements would be displayed. This option is mainly useful for the search result pages based advertisements because in the content network the ads are shown based on the content and not just the keywords you specify. You can either enter different keywords one by one or by adding keywords using spreadsheet where in you can link each keyword to a different destination URL. Its recommended that you start with around 50 different keywords which are related to your ad campaign and then click on the ‘Estimate Search Traffic’ button which will scan the keywords and give you a report with the total number of searches per day and the total approximate cost you will have to pay at the maximum CPC you have setup.
The cost estimation is just a approximate figure based on the keywords you have mentioned in the list, this can change if you change the maximum cost per click amount and generally the number of clicks/day would increase if you are ready to pay more per click because that would make your advertisements to be displayed on a higher position. Since adding many keywords manually is not only hard but also confusing because you cannot manually find out many different keywords for a specific ad, hence its recommended to also make the use of the ‘Suggested Keywords’ feature which will display a list of different keywords based on the content of your website URL specified in the destination URL section. Check out the Screenshot below to get a idea on how the keyword suggestions option looks like.
You can also make use of the ‘Keyword Tool’ which is available in the same section, which would give you with a lot of indepth information for different keywords on the basis of Keyword, Competition, Global Monthly Searches, Local Monthly Searches & Local Search Trends. Check out a sample results page for a specific keyword & website along with a maximum CPC & Daily Budget. The tool also provides you with a list of different keywords which can be directly added to your campaign by selecting the Download option available on the top of the research table.
This completes the basics of creating a new ad campaign along with the selection and addition of different keywords. In the next tutorial we will work on choosing the right keywords for your Adwords Campaign.
