How to Download Photos, Music from Sony PSP?

May 18, 2008 by Amit Bhawani 3 Comments

Many of us buy some computer accessories let it be hardware or software and then get puzzled by its different features. Recently a thing like this happened to me, when I failed to figure out the way of my working through my new PSP on my Windows XP operating system.

The only thing I know is that I can copy pictures and music on PSP, but I am not ware of the procedure. For that I had to borrow suggestion form my brother. He explained me the entire system in small steps. If you are a complete layman like me, you will also be benefited by these steps learnt at my brother’s tutorial.

How Should You Start?
You must have Memory Stick attached in the new PSP; format that memory stick first along with your PSP. The formatting is done in a few simple steps. Select Home, then go to Settings and scroll down to the System Settings. Now, press the ‘X’ button for selecting the System Settings option and then scroll down and pick the option Format the Memory Stick. Click on it once and the stick will be formatted.
After that, take out and clip one end of USB cable into your PSP over the top edge and another end onto the PC. Then by using Settings menu, select the USB Connect, after which your PC should see the PSP as the removable drive.

I commenced the process following these instructions on my own Windows XP operating system. The Operating System installed a few new drivers, and quickly put forward a message box telling me to reboot, for mounting the device over the system.

I followed the instruction of the message box, and after the entire rebooting process completed, the device was shown as Removable Disk H: as shown in the image of My Computer.

What Are the Other Steps After Formatting Your Memory Stick?

Once the process of formatting is finished and you have obtained the new drive, half of the job is done. Double click on the Removable Disk H:. You will get a folder called PSP. Again double click on that folder; you will come across four folders created by the format. The folders are shown in the image below.

Now you will have to continue according to your requirements. Suppose you have music files in MP3 format, you can move them into the MUSIC folder using the drag-drop procedure (if your music files are in any other format, learn to convert them into MP3 format).

If you have graphics and photographs as JPEG files, you can always download those into the folder named as PHOTO. After you have downloaded the photographs, you will receive a message informing you that your pictures and graphics are loaded and ready for your use.

I hope you have understood the simple steps. You may feel a bit surprised to find the entire procedure to be so simple, but it’s true we fail to understand even this simple process by ourselves. Once you have learnt to access the device copying graphic and music files will no ore be a problem for you. Once you have finished using the PSP, click on your removable disk H: and select Eject.

For any further problem, you can always consult your friends who are well accustomed with the PC accessories.
