Finding when Google Spiders last visited your website

April 7, 2008 by Amit Bhawani 4 Comments

Google bots keep visiting your website if your pages are search engine friendly, you have added a robots.txt file, have optimised your website and have your website updated regularly with fresh original content.

Recently i recieved a email from one of my visitor who was interested to know when was the last time his website by the Google search engine spiders. The answer to this is very simple and easy to find out.

Just go to my post on best laptops and make a search in google for hyundai i10 car and you will find my blog post on hyundai i10 in the search results, and below the search result you will find the size of the post followed by – Cached – Similar pages.

Click on the Cached link and you will find a copy of your webpage which is stored on Google’s own local system and is updated regularly with the latest version and the last indexed time can be found from the Google cache page date.

Google Cache Results

Google takes a snapshot of each page examined as it crawls the web and caches these as a back-up in case the original page is unavailable. If you click on the “Cached” link, you will see the web page as it looked when we indexed it. The cached content is the content Google uses to judge whether this page is a relevant match for your query.

When the cached page is displayed, it will have a header at the top which serves as a reminder that this is not necessarily the most recent version of the page. Terms that match your query are highlighted on the cached version to make it easier for you to see why your page is relevant.

The “Cached” link will be missing for sites that have not been indexed, as well as for sites whose owners have requested we not cache their content.
