Google has finally updated the Earth Application to be compatible with the Apple iPad which gives the iPad users excellent productivity and a useful application for their device. The App is available at the App Store for free of cost, which even if it was going to be sold at a price of 2.99$ to 4.99$ price range, there would be thousands of users who would have purchased it. The application is of around 12mb in download size and is currently available to US users only, international users can easily Setup a iTunes Account without credit card & US Address and also download it.

Once you tap on the App, you will find the awesome full screen revolving Earth with the locations automatically loading which are display right on the screen. Following are some common question and answers :

  • Q. How to find a restaurant, hotel, college, university, movie theater or swimming pool near me?
Ans. If you are planning to search any kind of place nearby your location, you need to first tap on the Current Location Button iPad Maps Locate to first make the Application to find your current location and display it. Next you need to tap on the right side top corner search box and enter the name of the location you are searching for.
  • Q. How to find a Specific Location on Google Earth for ipad?
Ans. On the right side top corner of the app you will find a large Search box where you need to enter the locations name and the same would be searched for. Once you have started typing the location, the app would display a text saying ‘Search for …. near me’ and this means that the App will try to find the location with the specific name you have searched for and give you all the results for the same in the form of pins on the map.

  • Q. Is it possible to find the North, South, East & West navigation’s?
Google Earth iPad CompassAns. Its not completely possible to use the Digital Compass features which the Maps application offers you but there is one way you can atleast find some approximates. For this while you perform a search for any location, you need to next tap on the N button and it will rotate and tilt the map to display the North at 90 degrees.
  • Q. Can i download complete locations from Google Earth to my Apple iPad and view them offline?
Ans. There is no download database available for this application and even there would be any we could not handled the Gigabytes of information stored on these portable devices. There are certainly a few ways to download offline maps but seems like nothing is possible yet for the iPad application.
  • Q. Will i have to press on the 2x button for Expanding for Higher Resolution Screen Display Area?
Ans. Google has updated this app to work specifically for the iPad which means that its completely compatible and easy to run. You don’t have to use any full screen extension apps nor have to press on the double size button. The application automatically sizes upto the full screen area and displays the locations in decent quality. You need to set the preferences for displaying 3D buildings and other stuff.
  • Q. Do i need a very high Internet Connection for accessing the Google Earth?
Ans. A very high broadband connection is not compulsory but a decent enough connection like the 3G connection on iPad would be quite enough to run this application because this total works on Image system and when you search for anything or locate any place Images would be loaded one by one in the background to display you the Map.
  • Q. How to get a list of all the location results on Google Earth?
Ans. When you search for some address or place on the Earth Application, it would suggest you with multiple places with alphabetical order to represent each of them. You can check out the following Image to get a idea on how this works and how the search suggestions are displayed.

  • Q. How much space will the App need to install on the ipad?
Ans. The application would need a total of 211Mb of free space when you install it and this would need more space while you use it because all the locations which are accessed are stored onto the device and only removed when you delete the cache.
  • Q. Is the Street View Feature available all over the World?
Ans. Currently this feature is available only in limited cities all over the world mainly in the North America, Australia, Europe, Parts of Africe, New Zealand, Japan etc. Also in most of these locations only major cities are covered and this is being updated every day with new locations.
  • Q. How can i Enable the Street View in Google Earth?
Ans. You need to Tap on the Layers button located on the top left section and then select all the options listed there, which would give you the maximum information for any location. The street view feature is not enabled for the Earth iPad App though you can view photos of most locations by tapping on the small Image thumbnail powered by ‘Panoramio Photos’. Below is a demo for ‘White House’ location search. Note this is fully function on the Desktop version because of the flash availability.

  • Q. The Street view feature is available in Google Maps but not in Google Earth for iPhone or iPad. Why?
Ans. The Street view option which is available on your computers desktop is powered by Google Maps and supported with Adobe Flash, which the Apple devices don’t allow. This is the only reason both the iPad or iPhone wont be able to run the Street view and you will have to opt for some other alternative for this.

It’s a great app for sure. Anything that involves the minds of Google and Apple is going to be a treat to use but there are still some things that could be added to make it even better on the iPad. The experience now is…near immersive, on the cusp. ANYTHING is better than using that silly pixel doubler!

Can I delete some of the previous searches without deleting them all. I tapped on the top and nothing comes up. So far I absolutely love this app but have many searches I will only go into once. We areleaving for a 6 week trip in our motorhome and will be using this all the time.
