Life is busy these days and to get to important places in time one needs to have a vehicle of his own. The process of buying a vehicle, getting the registration done and then obtaining the license is a long drawn and tedious process. One should actually know where to go, what to do, and whom to contact. The following lines will make the process easier.
You need to get your learning license first up. Form 1, 1a, 2 are to be duly filled in and the Xerox of passport, telephone bill, house tax receipt, LIC policy, pay slip, voter’s card, ration card or pan card (any one) is to be taken. To confirm the age you need to have your birth certificate or the school certificate has to be included. You have to be a minimum of 16 years of age for vehicle without gear and above 18 years of age for a vehicle with gear. You need to go through a driving test and it will cost you nearly Rs.90.
For the permanent driving license form 4 has to be filled up and the original copy of the learning license is to be submitted. You need to have your vehicle with you for purpose. A fee of Rs.390 to Rs.440 has to be paid depending on the category of the vehicle.
To obtain the International Driving Permit one has to fill up forms 1a and 4a. You need to submit the original copy of the Indian driving license and the Xerox copy of the passport and visa. The fee for the purpose is Rs.650.
Duplicate driving license can be availed by filling in the LLD form along with a copy of the police certificate. The fee involved is Rs. 315.
If you want to renew your license then the costs involved will be Rs. 350 and the forms 1,1a, 9 have to be filled in. make sure you have your original driving license with you and a medical certificate is needed for the people aged more than 50 years.
Registration of the vehicle means that you need to fill up forms 20, 21, 22. You need to take your vehicle for inspection. Motor cycles and light motor vehicles require Rs. 160 and 500 respectively and you have to fill in form 26. Also you need to file the police enquiry certificate and no objection certificate from the financier for both the cases.
