How to Resize Videos Files

November 14, 2009 by Amit Bhawani

Video files which are very large cannot be watched if the internet is slow. There different ways of converting these files which are larger than 640 *840 into smaller dimension. It is useful for watching the video on the You tube or uploading into the You tube. There are tools which can be used to resize the videos, but most them come with a cost. By using the following method you can do the resizing free of cost. There is program known as virtual dub a video capture/ processing utility for 32 bit and 64 bit Window platform.

Virtual dub has capabilities of batch processing large files, and can be extended with third party video filters. It processes AV1 files and can read MPEG-1, BMP images. It cannot edit like Adobe Premiere but can be streamlined for linear controls over video. Other capabilities with this wonderful software is adding special effects to the videos such as making it black and white, blurring the images, flipping the image, and many more.

The first step is to download virtual Dub. Make sure to keep Virtual Dub in a folder on your hard drive. Instillation is very easy. Once installed the program is launched by clicking on the virtual dub icon. Then you have to click on the video which you want to resize. The video opens as two images one original and the other altered. You can watch both the videos at the same time. Both the videos appear the same because nothing has been done. The next step is to click on the filter icon which shows many option ignore all except the resize option, after selecting the resize option either you type in the resolution you want or say relative making it 50 % of the original resolution. The original video is seen on the right side and the altered one on the left side; you should save the file by clicking on file and save as AVI. Then the last step is to play the video as you want and whenever you want. To view and read more about it you need to check out http://www.virtualdub.org
