How to Save or Download Google Maps to your PC

November 28, 2009 by Amit Bhawani 3 Comments

Recently i was finding more latest Map of the Hyderabad International Airport using Google Maps and for this i had to visit the GoogleMaps website and then search for the location. Next i was shown with a few results along with Alphabetical Order in case there are multiple results for the search key-phrase. Along with the Map info there were options that would allow me to get Directions, Search nearby Locations, Save to My Saved Places which can be accessed again when i visit this website and logged into my Google account and also send the map to someone. You can check the below Screenshot which would show you that the Maps website does show few thumbnails of the location search if available.

Now there is no option to either Save the whole Map to my computer or else Download a Copy which is the reason, i had to download a application of 409kb size called as the Google Map Saver (GMS) from here. This would offer you a easy way of not only viewing the maps on your desktop in a standalone application but also download them.

Along with this you have option to change the display from the Window Size to small VGA to Large which could stand at 12000×12000, though these kind of sizes are useful when you are planning to take a print out of these maps. Also you get the coordinates information and the Format in which you would like to save the Image. At the end there is a option to Save Image which would save a copy of the currently visible screen to your desktop and would also add a small watermark because of the free service, but i would recommend you to use the Print Screen button and save the displayed screen to avoid this watermark. Currently this tiny application is compatible with Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista and Windows 7 based computers.
