How to Subscribe to Web pages without Rss Feed

February 24, 2010 by Amit Bhawani

Recently i was surfing a excellent travel blog which was totally built on html based pages and hence it didn’t have any RSS Feed to subscribe, but i wanted to make sure that i get the latest information on this page whenever its updated. This is a typical problem which happens to everyone when they are looking to stay updated on the content which does not have a feed option to subscribe. This happens in most cases of education websites, notification pages etc where in the pages content are just replaced with fresh content or added at the top, and its hard to find out the changes easily.

Don’t worry Google Reader can fix your problem because it does offer you to subscribe to pages where there is no RSS Feed option available.

These custom feeds are most useful if you want to be alerted whenever a specific page has been updated. For example, if you wanted to follow Google.org’s latest products, just type “http://www.google.org/products.html” into Reader’s “Add a subscription” field. Click “create a feed”, and Reader will periodically visit the page and publish any significant changes it finds as items in a custom feed created just for that page.

In order to get started, just visit this URL – http://www.google.com/reader/view/ , then click on ‘Add a subscription’ button which will ask you to Enter a URL, where in you need to enter the web page url which you want to subscribe. Thats it whenever there is any change in the page, you will get the updates on your Google Reader. Simple and useful trick!
