I have downloaded the latest version of the Apple Safari 5 Browser on my Windows Laptop, imported Firefox bookmarks and then started using it. Pretty impressed till now but i wanted to know how to use the Firefox Add-ons in the Safari Browser. Is there any similar option to import firefox addons into safari so that i can stop using the Firefox Browser and move to this new faster browser.
Unlike Google Chrome, the safari browser does allow you to install add-ons like Firefox offers but they are named as Extensions and in order to set this up you need to first enable the Extensions. Go to Preferences > Enable Extensions or else Click on Develop > Enable Extensions if the Developer mode is enabled for your browser.
Next you need to download and install a few extensions which you need to find from different websites because they are not available the way Firefox offers you. In case of firefox you can directly download a addon from the browser Tools > Add-on’s > Get Add-on’s > Search, but seems like safari wants you to find these extensions from 3rd party websites and use them.
You can find a list of Best Safari Extensions here, which is available as a downloadable version. Next you need to double click on the .safariextz based files which will directly open the browser and show the following message if you want to Install the extension or not.
Next under the Tools > Preferences > Extentions, you can find the list of all the extensions you have installed and if the updates are available for the same.
