Top 6 Tips to Speed-Up Windows 7 Performance

Microsoft Windows7 LogoYou must have come across many tips to increase the speed and performance of Windows 7. Here are the some of the top tips that can considerably speed up Windows 7, but require only few seconds of your time.

  1. Getting Rid of Useless Fonts: There are many fonts which are of no use unless one frequently prints pages.  The removal of fonts can be done using the following process.
    • Open the folder named Fonts from control panel.Your browser may not support display of this image.
    • A temporary folder should be created in any other drive and the UNUSED fonts should be moved into that folder. By doing so, the system resources can be utilized more efficiently.
    Note: Deleting fonts is not recommended, as you may require them in future, so just move them into a different folder.
  1. Speeding-up Boot Time: The system can be booted faster than earlier by using some steps. They are
    • Type the command ‘msconfig’ in ‘Run’ option (after clicking on start menu)
    • Open the tab Boot and go to advanced options.
    • Then type the number of processors used by the computer in the column ‘number of processors’.
    • Click Apply thereby ok.
    • After that the PC should be restarted and the PC will definitely boot faster than the earlier.

  1. Turning off Search Indexer in Windows 7: The steps for disabling the search indexer are
    • In the run option type services.msc
    • After opening the services window, find the option ‘windows search’ and right click on it

Note: You must re-start the system for the new settings to be effective.

    • Choose the option ‘disabled’ and close the window.
  1. Turning off System Sounds: If not interested having the system sound they can be turned off in order to save the memory of the system. The steps to be followed are
    • Open run command from start menu and type the command ‘mmsys.cpl’
    • Open the sounds tab in the window opened and select the option ‘no sounds’ from the menu.

Note: You must re-start the system for the new settings to be effective.

  1. Streamline the startup of Windows 7: The programs that were not used can be prevented every time from loading those automatically. Steps to do this are
    • Type ‘msconfig’ in the run option.
    • Open the tab ‘startup’
    • Uncheck the options that are not needed
    • Click Apply and restart the PC.
  1. Disabling Unwanted Services: few services of system are not useful for the usual working of Windows. Even though there I no use of such services they consume memory and will be running on the background of the PC. To disable such services the steps to be followed are listed below.
    • Open start menu, and click on ‘all programs’.
    • Next, go to administrative tools option. However, you must note that this option may not be visible unless it is enabled (or if you’re logged in as guest). To enable this option, right click on start menu > properties and then click on customize.
    • After the window opens, click on ‘Advanced’ tab. In the menu check the option ‘display on all programs menu’ under the option ‘system administrative tools’; now you should be able to see this option when you click on all programs.
    • After the administrative tools option is visible, click on services and select the option ‘Manual’ after giving a right click on services that you don’t require currently.
    • After doing all the process, restart is needed for PC for these settings to come into effect.
