I was recently wondering about the total number of websites on the Web, after finding my blog’s Alexa Rank reaching in 4 digits. This is because i wanted to know how many other websites on the Earth iam competiting with and whats the point if there are a couple million websites and you rank in millions. After doing some searches i found that netcraft makes a Web Server Survey with the total number of websites in terms of Hostnames & Active Websites in the form of a Graph which indicates that there is a tremendous growth in the overall numbers.
At the same time there has been a huge amount of confusion on the total number of blogs here but the conclusion was never given with many bloggers saying that Technorati claims of 100 million+ blogs on the web but no statistics or count confirmations. These all numbers can be a raw estimate based on the total number of Hostnames and Active websites.
With the increase in the number of Bloggers and web demand, it seems like the numbers are bound to increase at a higher rate and we expect that new TLD’s would be introduced to allow new domain registrations. What do you feel about the total sites count on the whole Earth.
sooo many websites, the craze is going to be more n more increasing for sure
Oh, it increase faster than a rocket!
The number would have been doubled by now, but still the ratio in the number of domains and active sites might still be the same.
