Apple iAds is a new Advertising network from Apple through which Apple Apps Developers can make money. Currently all the Apps developers who develop apps for the Apple iPhone, iPad, iPod etc make money either through Google Adsense or through different 3rd party ad networks which in most cases would close the App directly and run the ad in the default safari browser.
Now in this new system Apple wants to help their devs earn money so they can continue to create free and low-cost apps for users. Apple hosts and sells the ads, so all you have to do is tell us where you want them and make the money according to Steve Jobs. There are already many big brands who are advertising through Apple iAds – “Nissan, Citi, Unilever, AT&T, Chanel, GE, Liberty Mutual, State Farm, Geico — they want you guys to have insurance! — Sears, JCPenny, Target, Best Buy, DirecTV, TBS network, and Disney.
The announcement of this was actually done by Steve himself at WWDC 2010, when he announced the Apple iPhone4 to the whole world. We will update more on how these ads look and if they are better than the current ad networks or not.
