Making Money with Commission Junction Affiliate Programs
Commission Junction is one of the biggest Affiliate Marketing website where you can find advertisers who need sales/clicks/leads for their business and you can earn commissions by getting their job done. Its not really as it looks the way it is. Getting advertisers is real easy because cj.com offers you with everything but the main problem comes when you are looking for real sales of the advertisers products.
The advertisers get their business conversions from the huge publishers base who promote their products using paid search bid management[SEM] , Organic Search Engine Optimization Traffic [SEO], paid Advertising, Shopping Feeds etc. Generally all the CJ advertisers are ranked based on their previous performance. You would be joining as a ‘Publisher’ to promote the advertisers products and will be paid a percentage of commission by the advertiser whenever a visitor whom you referred buys some product or fills out a form[leads] or subscribes to some services. A Impression is counted whenever a banner ad is viewed and whenever these ads are clicked, the number of clicks is a percentage to the total impressions made forming Click-Through-Rate.
You can signup for Cj.com for free here : Publisher Signup, once you signup and confirm your account you will be logged into the publisher Home section where you can find all the different links to Account Section, Get Links, Run Reports, Mail, Performance Level, Program Performance, Quick Stats, Trend Graphs & Advertisers & Links.
Click on the Get Links Tab in the top and you will shown with 4 sub-menu options – General Categories, Advertiser List, SmartZone Settings & By Relationship. Select the Category which you think you can promote and you will be shown with a full list of advertisers of the same category. In the whole list of advertisers you can select any/all of them to ‘Apply for Program’ to get started and promote their products. The affiliate managers at each of these Advertisers either Auto-Approve your accounts, or keep them in ‘Pending Application’ or ‘Declined Application’ status. Some of the advertisers check out your previous performace and then approve and some advertisers check out the country from which you are registered and then accept/deny your application, because a advertiser from Uk would not generally expect sales from a person who is from India, unless if your performance previously is very good with other products.
The ‘By Relationship’ Tab is a section where you can find the complete list of advertisers you are already tied up with and having a Active status and you can promote their products. Check out the following screenshot for getting a idea on how the advertisers appear in your account after approval and you need to click on the ‘View Links’ section to get affiliated banner/link ad codes.
Once you Click on the Get Links option you will be shown with a page with different types of banner ads & text ads, out of which you need to select the one you want to promote. They are generally ranked based on performance as i mentioned above which means that the highest converting banner ads will be shown in the top. Its always recommended to use these high converting ones only but it again depends on the way of promotions you are going to make. Click on the ‘Get HTML’ link which is placed on the right most section of these banner ads.
There are some optional settings if you want to tweak with your banner ad in the Get HTML section which are – Encrypt link?, For use in email?, Set link to open a new browser window?, & Hide tracking code in link. These are optional settings which would help you in adding more features to your banner ads. You can select them if you would like to hide the affiliate URL from the status bar of the browser, if you want the link to be opened in a new window rather than the same window and if you would like to hide the tracking code within the link itself.
Just use the Code given on these pages on your websites/landing pages and start promoting them to make money easily with these high paying affiliate programs. On the homepage of your Publisher Account in the top section you have a section where you can find the total revenue you have made from these affiliates and thats the amount which is unpaid and all your transactions are verified and then approved in order to make sure that you get the payments paid on time.
The Performance charts, tracking stats are all excellent tools to help you in tracking your CTR, conversion rates, amount of sales approved, extended etc. CJ generally makes the payment via Check’s and for this you need to click on the ‘Payment Status’ which is on the top right section of your Publisher Home page. It shows you the Payment Status, Last Payment Details etc.

I have made in 5 Digit$ when i used to promote with adwords, but it needs a lot of patience in order to setup the advertising campaigns, researching all the ads conversions etc. Its something not really easy nor hard and depends on your passion. You need to find the right niche and promote them to get easy conversions!

Adsense is always good but for CJ you need to have targetted content/ideas, let me show you a example of the same in this very same blog. This Yahoo Sponsored Coupon has affiliated links and i had made high 4 digit dollars when it was launched and it still goes on, wonder when will adsense pay 4 digit $ for a single article. Search in Google for Yahoo Sponsored Coupons and find out what i mean
You need quite a good research and dont just go with the general saying which says Affiliate Marketing is hard to make money.

Commission Junction does not make any payments for Clicks because its a Affiliate Network where you get paid for Leads ie Signups or Sales of Products/Services. Even if you get 1 Lakh Clicks and 0 Sales, you wont be making any money for those.

It’s not necessary to buy adwords..or something..
you can start with setting up a niche site..and then targeting afiliate ads related to niche..
Lets say if you have a tech blog.. so selling internet related tool, domain name and such tools will always be helpful to get maximum out of afiliate marketing.
It takes time to understand the funda..but once u become aware of it..It become easy for you to implement it.

The cd’s were scrapp,its good that you lost your cd’s.But whats imp is to spend lot of money in google adwords.So i would suggets you not to keep on spending.Cj is not that easy dear,and it will give money ony in long term and the time span can be very long.

Its not possible to give tips right away without knowing what you have already done but what i would recommend you is that, if you implement what you have already done for making the 125$, you can make a lot more money. Just try to do the same stuff 5-10x times.

If you have got a website, the code you get in the edit html page you can directly add on your website and try to get sales or leads. If you dont have a website you need to create professional looking email templates which have excellent information and signup buttons for the product you are going to promote.

Hi Amit. i wonder if you could help. You can email me directly if you want too. I am with CJ and i know what products are hot. Is it possibly to use the actual link code in the html they provide and cloak it with tinyurl. Will the clicks register properly if even though it shows they are tracking? So far i have made a sale, so something must be right. But your advice would be great. Also did you do google adwords direct to the to the links that you get on cj or to your website, as i am actioning that today?

You can make your URL’s short with TinyURL or Bit.ly and add the links on your website or adwords and they are tracked because the tracking code is also added in the same link generated in CJ. I generally campaign the CJ URL’s directly rather than my website in adwords.

Nice Article, indeed! I signed up with CJ just today and was trying to understand the funda. I am not into bringing more sales however I can get more leads for a product. I chose around 4 to 5 products and Applied for them. I got a reply saying “CJM – Diagnostic Minceur: Your application has been declined by this advertiser for one or more reasons. If you have a question please contact the advertiser through advertisers detail page within the account manager.” I guess it must have been auto declined based on my country. may be! I would like to ask you if you can provide us with a method (or way or guideline) which will help us to choose pay per lead programs in CJ that will approve fast? Or should we be trying to Apply for all the programs and wait till we are approved?
