Hi Amit, I have two kids at my home and unlimited Internet Access on the Desktop, but I have a fear in my mind about the Adult Websites which can be easily found and accessed on the computer. I have set the browser’s default homepage to www.google.com, but when i do a few searches in Google itself, i find unlimited number of websites having inappropriate Images, Videos and Links to file downloads which can be harmful for my kids at their current age. Is there any option for children control or any option using which i can make sure that whatever they Search in Google is secure and there is nothing to worry about the results. – Rajeev from Bangalore
Before i start giving you the information on how to block the content from your children’s reach, the first recommendation i can give you is to install children safe browser like Kidoz on your computer. This is because these browsers are secured and limited in use which means that the kids cannot access anything and everything they want to and are limited to only education & games related content. Next, you need to read our Parental Control Tips which can educate you on how to handle your kids and their internet surfing activity. We have also written a small guide on how to block children from accessing inappropriate websites which can also be useful. If you are just planning to block a single website, then you can use the browser based settings.
Block Inappropriate Content in Google : Back to the original topic of stopping access to bad content which can be performed in the following steps.
- You need to visit the Google.com website from your default browser.
- Next on the Top Right Side of the Google Homepage, you will find a link saying ‘Search Settings’, click on this.
- This will redirect to the Preferences page at http://www.google.com/preferences?hl=en , Next under the list of different options you need to search for the ‘SafeSearch Filtering’ which is on the 3rd column.
- You will find the following information under this option.
Google’s SafeSearch blocks web pages containing explicit sexual content from appearing in search results.
Use strict filtering (Filter both explicit text and explicit images)
Use moderate filtering (Filter explicit images only – default behavior)
Do not filter my search results
Lock SafeSearch This will apply strict filtering to all searches from this computer using Chrome. - You can choose any of the three options, or else for advanced mode, click on the fourth option of Lock SafeSearch.
- You will be asked to login to your Google Account with your Google Username & Password. Once signed in, you need to click on the Lock SafeSearch Button.

Locking SafeSearch sets SafeSearch to use strict filtering and restricts others’ ability to change this preference. Strict filtering filters both explicit text and explicit images from your search results. To indicate that SafeSearch is locked for this browser we’ve added colored balls to the top of all search pages. If the colored balls are not present, then SafeSearch is no longer locked.
Kidos browser is nice one. It have been used by my uncle in his home.
