Use Apple iPhone as Flash Drive to Backup Computer Files

August 26, 2010 by Jyoti Bhawani

Apple iPhones normally come with a huge Storage Space which is of around 16Gb & 32Gb based on the model and in most of the cases its left unused because the iPhone owners would just transfer few photos, few music and video files leaving a majority of the space empty. In this article we will show you how you can use this extra space left on your device as a backup storage option.

Using the iPhone Application called as Discover, which is a mobile file manager you can easily transfer some of your important files from your computer to the iPhone through the Wi-Fi Network and then access the same while you are Online or Offline.

The application would allow you to convert the iPhone into a Wireless Flash Drive which would bypass the need of a USB Pen Drive which costs a lot when we talk about a 16Gb or 32Gb model, but in this case you can enjoy the unused storage space on your device. You can easily connect the Phone with your computer through the web browser following which the files would be transmitted to and fro for both Windows & Mac based computers using the browsers like Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Safari, Finder etc.

Discover iPhone App

Along with the usage of the space you can also view most of the files because the App supports multiple formats like documents, audio files, video files, pictures etc which means that you can just transfer your Powerpoint presentations, document files which are all in pptx, .docx, .xlsx formats easily accessible through your device without the need for a separate app for accessing them.

You will have to access the URL http://(null):8888 from your browsers address bar following which you will be asked to set a Password for the security in order to keep the stored files in your own private access.
