Most of the iPhone users just upgrade their device to the latest version when they find the notification of the same on their website and following this the device gets locked again and they cannot use it unless its Jailbroken. Most of the devices can be jailbroken using the tutorials like Jailbreak 3GS on iOS4, Jailbreak 3GS, Jailbreak iPhone 3, iPhone 3.1.2 using different tools like Redsn0w, Ultrasn0w, Pwnagetool but there are the iPhone 3G 3GS New Bootrom for which currently there is no jailbreaking option available, hence if you try to upgrade it then you will have a bricked iphone which has no use.
In this article we will let you know about one very useful software called as the f0recast which gives you a quick report on any device and if it can be jailbroken or not. The tool works for both Windows & Mac OS X and is compatible with iPod & iPhones giving you a quick report if the device can be tethered or unlockable (iPhone only). Its better to run this utility once on your computer rather than trying out different options of jailbreaking first and then finding out that you are using the wrong tools.
Along with this it also tells you with the iPhone’s bootloader version and suggests you if you are on a higher baseband to downgrade for getting the device unlocked. In case of Windows the only requirement is that you should have both .NET Frameworks 2.0 & iTunes 9.0 or higher installed, while in case of Mac OS X – iTunes 9.0 or higher is the only requirement. In order to try out we went ahead by connecting two different iPhone’s of different versions and the results were as follows.
iDevice : iPhone 2G (Firmware 3.1.3) & iPhone 3GS (Firmware iOS4)
