How to Promote a New Blog & Get Traffic

Amit, I am regularly watching your blog ‘amitbhawani.com’ for atleast last six months. I like your way of representing things. keep rocking. On one of the recent blog , i had seen you have mentioned about one of your other blog makemoneynext.com which seems to be so content rich and I like that very much.

But now here comes the question.
1. Why is that having such a low alexa rank ?
2. Are you not promoting that blog?
3. Why is it not having much advertisements there.

This is a very general question of a relatively new blogger. Also please consider this as my attempt to make friendship with you as I do with many other bloggers. – Girish

Lets start straight with the answer to your 3 questions, first of all i didnt promote this website previously and this is the first time i have started talking about it after adding around a hundred articles to it which were really useful for the readers, rather than some useless articles. This website was originally registered late last year but left unused with just 2-3 articles in it. Here are the answers to your questions in detail.

1. Why is that having such a low alexa rank ?
   Ans – Since this website has pretty less traffic as its in the launch stage and has very very less number of visitors which Alexa can track, hence you are viewing almost no alexa rank. As the promotion goes on for this website you can see the alexa rank going up and then settling down somewhere around 1 lakh figure, since iam not going for any paid advertising and only word of mouth publicity at the moment. Will try to write about makemoneynext.com for a few more days and then totally wait for traffic from the search engines which is obviously free and long term. Currently the website has recieved a Alexa rank of 303,711 which is quite good considering its recently started.
   
   If you look into the above stats of Alexa, you will find that the alexa has started assigning rank to this website from May 2nd and for a week’s duration because of the launch post the number of visitors have gone up and a monthly average has already reached near 1 lakh rank. You can check out after a few days when this rank would be stable at some decent level when we can know the correct rank.
2. Are you not promoting that blog?
   Ans – I generally try to stay away from paid advertising for content based websites because we are not planning for adsense arbitrage and i always seek for 100% free traffic from the search engines which stays for long and you dont have to work in the future once the website is established. It does take up a good amount of time when you are looking for Organic traffic but its worth the time, since at the end of a term your total investment would be your time and the efforts would get your results for long term. If you are offering some services or selling some products online, then its better to go for paid advertising at the launch stage itself because you are expecting some sales from the initial stage itself, but in case of getting organic traffic you need dedication and patience towards any website.

   I will be promoting this new website using all the available free link building ideas which still work and implement them slowly, because excessive of anything can give you a negative effect on your website or blog. Blog Commenting, Article Submissions & Directory Submissions in quality paid directories does help your website and its always recommended to go for these options.

3. Why is it not having much advertisements there.
   Ans – Since its a very new website i have just setup Google Adsense ads on this website because they display 100% contexual ie related ads and once this website grows i will be setting up more ad options. The next step would be add Affiliate links within the articles, where the users would signup with different programs and in return help me make commissions through affiliate networks. Since this is a fairly new website having huge number of ads on the website is not recommended and once the website reaches a decent number of visitors , somewhere around 500 visitors every day we can go ahead with one more ad placed somewhere in the header or the sidebar. Currently iam not looking for making the maximum money, because when you are building and running a new website you should think about long term returns and keep atleast 6 months time in your hand before you start making money.

Here are few suggestions for getting traffic to your blog :
1. Setup minimum Ads on your New Blog.
2. Create some Targets on your Subscribers Count – Say 500 Subscribers by year end.
3. Comment on related blogs for link building & getting visitors.
4. Keep working on the design part and make sure its not broken in any browser.
5. Create all Feed Subscription options and display them on your blog.
6. Visit related forums and ask the forum members for suggestions for your new blog in order to get visitors, suggestions, reviews, backlinks.
7. Announce your blog from your already established blog and get visitors visiting your established blog to your new blog.
8. Keep updating the new blogs stats in the public, and keep comparing them with the previous months results to know the amount of success you have recieved.
