How to Setup BSNL 3G Mobile – Configuration Settings

April 6, 2011 by Yogesh Patel

BSNL 3G LogoIt’s more than a year since BSNL has been launched 3G services in India, since then until now many private players who have bought 3G license were unable to make a big impact on the customers, the main reason being the high charges of plans. Now we have Airtel 3G, Vodafone 3G, Idea 3G, Tata DoCoMo 3G and MTNL 3G operating in various circles in India.

Configuration Settings for BSNL 3G Mobile

Just like 2G, there are two sets of method by which you can get settings, which are –

  • Request to Customer Care through Automatic Settings – Under this you will get in touch with the BSNL 3G customer care and ask them to send the settings. You need to mention your mobile number, phone maker model details to them.
  • Manual Settings – The problem with automatic settings request to the customers care is that you mayn’t receive settings on time. Infact BSNL customer care services are really bad that there is no support staff to answer your phone or if at all they lift it they doesn’t know anything. So in such cases going with manual settings makes your work quicker and lot more easier. So here we are for that!

BSNL 3G Settings for Nokia Phones

In Nokia mobiles its quite easy to configure 3G, first set your mobile into Dual mode where the mobile will automatically choose the available network on a particular band.

Now got to Menu > Settings > Connections > Access Point

Then in Access Point list it from the below mentioned Access Point Names.

Access Point Names for BSNL 3G

The following are the different sets of APN for mobile –

  • bsnlnet – For browsing on mobile, 3G on PC or laptop
  • bsnlive – APN for GPRS browsing on your mobile
  • bsnlmms – For sending and receiving MMS on mobile
  • bsnlstream – APN for BSNL live and Hello TV

Configuration Settings for BSNL 3G Mobile (other handsets)

The settings for 3G configuration are very similar to as that of GPRS and its nothing hard to configure.

  • First and the important thing is to make sure that your phone is the 3G network, you will then see 3G written near the network icon on your mobile.
  • Now depending upon your mobile reach to Connection Settings, where you would create a new connection or profile, name it as “BSNL 3G”.
  • Here you just need to set APN as “bsnlnet” and apart from that leave everything empty.
  • With single restart to your Smartphone you would be able to get 3G web access on your mobile.

Get BSNL 3G Settings through SMS

Some of the phones are saved in databases of BSNL 3G and they have options of automatic settings through SMS. To get the automatic settings you need to send an SMS to 58355, a toll-free number and for different services you need to send the following in message body of the text message –

  • SMS as BSNL to 58355 for the settings of bsnlnet, bsnllive, bsnlstream & bsnlmms
  • SMS as LIVE to 58355 for bsnlive
  • SMS as TV to 58355 for TVStream
  • SMS as NET to 58355 for bsnlnet
  • SMS as MMS to 58355 for bsnlmms

Once you have sent that SMS you will receive the settings on your mobile from BSNL which you need to save it, restart your mobile and there you go with 3G on your mobile.
